We have had a lot of interest in alternative living lately and have decided to add this page to offer locally built Yurts for living or for a holiday option.
A Yurt is a portable, felt-covered, wood lattice-framed dwelling structure used by Mongolian nomads in the stepps of Central Asia. Traditionally a Yurt consists of a circular wooden frame with a felt roof. A European yurt would tend not to have the felt roof but a canvas or PVC one as it is far more likely to rain than to snow. A yurt can be warm and dry all the year round.
We can offer a construct and dismantle/storage service and have the yurt sited on your land as an alternative to a caravan or tent.
Our yurts are made by a local family business "Larfin Yurts" and are constructed with a military grade canvas with a life span of over ten years, the wooden sections are made from a locally sauced supply. There is a variety of options to cover and to insulate including locally source blankets and carpets. For a semi permanent Yurt a wooden decking is advised to keep the damp from the canvas. They can be fitted with a stove and so can be a very cosy dwelling in the winter as well.Below are some pictures of a yurt under construction.
